Something Clicked. Again.

Last night, I put the Epiphone Hummingbird away on the rack with Dirty Nez (The Ibanez 3/4 size campfire strummer I traded musician Tommy Wayne Cross for my PS4. There’s only so many times I could run through The Last of Us without breaking down into tears. Again, I was single, I had time to learn, and it was going to get me laid more often; not that I needed much help. It was just the cooler way of doing so. Seriously, I was treating it like Pokémon. Squirtle jokes aside, midlife crisis and such…), and my son’s little left-hander that he never touches. It was time to put the Les Paul Widow on the stand.

You see, I spent the last two years of my life mostly ignoring my fiction writing and concentrating on guitar. I learned the basics well enough to fumble my way through an open mic gig, but that soon became boring. For our ani-birth-mas (That’s the BIG, spontaneous gift my wife and I usually get for each other throughout the year; no holiday needed.) she took me to Guitar Center and let me pick out whatever I wanted.

All I could see was this.

Having already owned an Epiphone for a year, I completely trusted the brand. To boot, it was a Guitar Center Les Paul exclusive. There was zero hesitation in pulling the trigger.

It’s my precious.

Finally, two weeks into the new year, I’m dissecting my old, basic, open chord acoustic songs with power chords, pedals, and Les Paul frills. I’m having so much fun, y’all. This is like the first time I had teenage free-range over a chick. Some of you might find that last line offensive, and I’m sorry you didn’t have teenage free-range access to a chick. She was a great teacher, rest in peace, and every woman since quite enjoyed her curriculum. Owed her a debt of gratitude, they did! Legend.

That kind of interest and exploration, though.

Seriously, stop bitching. You all know how much it changed you; good or bad. I’m just trying to put you in the right head-space for how deeply I’m into it. I’m into it like a survival skill, and no books are getting written.

I have all the gear I need now for studio-quality guitar and vocals recording, and the fun has only just begun.

Don’t worry; I’m not on Facebook anymore. You have to really seek me out to be annoyed by my music.
