Every morning, I take my young son to and from school through the Trinity River bottoms, otherwise known as the Tenth Street District or the Freedman’s District. It’s a place that’s had HISTORIC flooding issues, so, naturally, the white slave owners losing their workforce gave it to the freed people needing a place to live.
